Donate Stocks, Bonds, or Shares of Mutual Funds
to Worldview Resource Group
Gifts of stocks, bonds, or shares of mutual funds that have
increased in value make tax savings possible and are an easy,
convenient way to support Worldview Resource Group. They are
also fully tax-deductible.
If the stocks, bonds, or mutual funds have been held long
term, it is more advantageous to the donor to give these securities
directly rather than to sell them and give the proceeds from
the sale. By making a gift of the appreciated securities themselves,
donors may completely avoid the capital gains tax, allowing
the gift to be made at a significantly lower cost while receiving
a deduction for the full current fair market value.
Special Note: It is important to notify Worldview Resource
Group when you have completed your request to your broker
or financial institution. Please send a copy of your letter
of authorization to Bob Strauss, President and CEO of Worldview
Resource Group.

If You Have Held the Stock for Less than a Year
If you have held the stock for one year or less, the stock
is ordinary income property, so it is taxed at ordinary income
rates. The amount you can deduct, then, depends on whether
or not the stock has increased in value during the period
you have owned it. If the stock has increased in value during
the time you have held it, you can deduct the basis of the
stock. The basis is what you paid for the stock plus any commissions
and fees that you paid to purchase that stock.
If You Have Held the Stock for More Than a Year
If the stock is considered long-term capital gains property
(stock that has been held for more than one year), the charitable
contribution is the fair market value on the date of the donation
-- as long as your contribution deduction does not exceed
30% of your adjusted gross income.
